A couple of former Jackson County athletes had some big-time moments at their respective colleges during track and field season this spring.
Brownstown Central’s Dustyn Kocsis helped the College of DuPage win the 2023 NJCAA Track and Field Championships.
Kocsis was an All-American in both the discus with a throw of 121 feet, 7 inches, and the hammer throw at 141-1. Kocsis was seventh in discus in the NJCAA championships and fourth in hammer.
Sticking to the theme of throwing, Seymour’s Chase Miles earned a medal in the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Miles, a senior at Franklin College, got first place, winning the javelin throw with a personal-record mark of 46.44 meters.
Seymour’s Chase Miles (middle) wins the javelin throw representing Franklin College at the 2023 HCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
