The Brownstown Central softball team gathered in the school’s cafeteria on Tuesday night to celebrate its 2022 season.

The Braves finished the season with an overall record of 15-12 and 5-3 in the Mid-Southern Conference under Darren Bryant, who was in his first stint as Brownstown head coach.

The Braves had Silver Creek on the ropes in the sectional but fell just short 5-3.

Bryant said it was a solid first season, and aside from a couple of games, he thought Brownstown was competitive and in every single game they played.

The Braves’ coaching staff had some awards to hand out to the players.

Rylin Huddleston earned the junior varsity leading hitter award. Brooke Meahl, Sophie Wayt, Brooklyn Watson and Kyndle Huddleston all were first-time varsity letter recipients.

Kelsey Schneider, Emily Dillman, Rylee May and Adelynn Anderson all received their varsity letter jackets, as well.

Zoe Stuckwisch was given the mental attitude award, and Schneider earned the leading hitter and pitcher awards. Schneider led Brownstown with a .384 batting average, and she had 38 hits to lead the team and 26 runs scored to lead the team.

In the circle, Schneider pitched 87.2 innings and had 82 strikeouts and two shutouts.

Emily Singleton won the defensive award as the team’s catcher, and she was also named the MVP.

Singleton had a .375 batting average, 14 stolen bases, 36 hits, 24 runs scored and 19 RBI. She also led the team with five triples on the year.

Emily and her twin sister, Erin, were both named MSC all-conference. Erin had a .346 batting average with 28 hits, 22 runs scored, 17 RBI and team-high 11 doubles.

Schneider was MSC all-conference honorable mention.

Brownstown graduated four seniors from this year’s team: Erin and Emily Singleton, Watson and Stuckwisch.

Erin is going to continue her softball playing career at Manchester University, while Emily is committed to play softball at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Bryant said the quartet of seniors were a great group of players and leaders and will be hard to replace.
