A Jackson County man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a report that an 11-year-old girl had been sexually battered.

Martin Diego Juan, 38, of Seymour faces a Level 6 felony charge of sexual battery, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster with the Seymour Police Department.

Foster said Seymour police received information May 13 about the incident that led to Juan’s arrest.

Investigators and family case managers with the Indiana Department of Child Services interviewed the girl, leading them to believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident, Foster said.

Investigators and family case managers attempted to locate the man later in the evening, but attempts were unsuccessful.

Juan was intoxicated at the time he was located and arrested May 20 by an officer with the Seymour Police Department, Foster said.

Juan was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 6:48 p.m. that day and remained there Friday. He is being held without bond.

A Level 6 felony is punishable by six months to two and a half years in prison with an advisory sentence of one year if convicted.
