Literacy and recreation program now available at Seymour park

The Jackson County Public Library with a grant from the Community Foundation of Jackson County and in collaboration with the Seymour Parks and Recreation Department has installed a Story Stroll at Shields Park in Seymour.

The purpose of the Story Stroll, located just past the fountain in the center of the park at Sixth and Broadway streets, is to allow adults and their young children or grandchildren to combine literacy skills and healthy exercise as they walk, skip, hop and dance though 22 reading stations of story and other information.

The Story Stroll is a free activity for park visitors and is accessible during normal park hours.

The first Story Stroll installment features “The Music of the Sea” written by Susanna Isern and illustrated by Marta Chicote. The book is presented in both English and Spanish and includes a five-question survey at the end. Stories will change throughout the year, so visiting the Story Stroll is encouraged all year long.
