Marlene Marie Moenning Schuerman, age 93, of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Schuerman was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid at the church.

Marlene lived and worked hard on the farm all her life. She also worked at the Dudleytown Store for over 40 years and catered many weddings. She loved cooking and playing cards, and she was a member of the Tri Kappa Card Club.

Born on May 26, 1928, at her home, Marlene was the daughter of Albert and Martha Rieckers Moenning, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 15, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, she married Alfred F. Schuerman, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters: Nancy LaMar of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Jeanette (Herman “Buck”) Chastain of Brownstown; one son, Jonathon (Leann) Schuerman of Seymour; grandchildren: Amy (Brian) Tape, Jodi (Walter) Batman, Jason Schuerman, Justin (Whitney) Chastain, John Lincoln (Maggie) Chastain, Scott Schuerman, and Taylor (Rhett Petersen) Schuerman; and great-grandchildren: Connor Tape, Carter Tape, Hope Batman, Kalika Batman, Lillyan Schuerman, Haley Schuerman, Kinley Chastain, Klaire Chastain, Kemora Chastain, Shelby (Bryce) McCory, Taylor Walls, and Urban Petersen.

Mrs. Schuerman was also preceded in death by one son, Marion Dean Schuerman; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Schuerman; a son-in-law, Steven LaMar; one sister, Elenora Loyd; and two brothers: Donald Moenning, and an infant brother.

Funeral services for Marlene Marie Moenning Schuerman will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, with Pastor Craig Muhlbach officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers.

Interment will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, Schneck Medical Center Hospice, or Hoosier Christian Village. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the loving and caring staff of Schneck Medical Center Hospice and Hoosier Christian Village.
