SEYMOUR

Elsie Ann Cordes Hague entered peacefully into eternal rest on December 4th, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born March 28th, 1935, to Louis and Edna Cordes. She went on to graduate from Seymour High School in 1953 and entered Florida Southern College in Lakeland Florida later that same year. She began her lifelong career as a teacher in Fort Lauderdale, moving back to Indiana for good and eventually settling down and getting married to Billy Max Hague in July of 1963. They had two children and were married for 52 years. Bill preceded her in death in 2015.

Bill and Elsie had two children John Hague and Kristin (Hague) Goss who survive. Together they have five grandchildren. Chaz Hague (Simpsonville SC), Delaney Goss (Jeffersonville IN), Keaton Goss (Sellersburg, IN), Matti (Hague) Penegar (Sumter, SC), and Elle Hague (Seymour, IN). Elsie was fortunate enough to see her first great grandson born October 27th, 2021. Tripp Warren Hague (Chaz Hague &Skye Toppe).

Elsie was married in and belonged to the Presbyterian Church of Seymour until 1973 when she joined First Baptist Church. At both churches over time she was a choir member, teacher, and superintendent of Sunday School(s). Elsie helped establish the Noah’s Ark Preschool at First Baptist Church. She volunteered her time to work with the Humane Society, Girl’s Inc of Jackson County, and Schneck Hospital where she and Bill did Meals on Wheels for 10 years. She was a lifelong member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She was a lifelong dog owner, trainer, and general lover of all animals. She later dedicated her time to taking her dogs to local nursing homes for visitations. Elsie was a proud 14-year survivor of breast cancer. She also enjoyed her flowers and spent the last years of her life planting and growing them surrounding her entire property.

Elsie loved most her vocation-teaching. For nearly 35 years she taught school-elementary education, spending nearly 27 years at Seymour Redding school teaching third grade. She kept a list of every student she taught during that time and could remember most names and faces throughout the years. To all of her students, please know she loved watching you learn, she enjoyed each day of teaching you, and she truly loved you all.

Funeral services for Elsie will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 1:00PM at Voss &Sons Funeral Service, 316 N. Chestnut St., Seymour, IN 46274. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 10AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
