The Seymour boys and girls swimming and diving teams both came away with victories at New Albany on Tuesday night.

The girls won 93-90, and the boys won 90-89.

Taking home first-place finishes for the Owls were Pedro Cerino Rico in the 200 IM in 2:08.11, Paul Montgomery in the 50 freestyle (22.86), Cerino Rico again in the 100 fly (56.37), Montgomery in the 100 freestyle (52.08) and Larry Simons in the 500 freestyle (5:28.02).

As for the girls, Samantha Jacobi won the 50 freestyle (27.57), Maren McClure won the 100 fly (1:04.69), Lillian Sunbury won the 500 freestyle (5:55.79) and McClure won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.14).

The Owls will be back in action Saturday when they host the Seymour Invitational starting at 9 a.m.

Girls basketball

Trinity falls; pair of games postponed

The Trinity Lutheran girls basketball team took a trip to South Ripley on Tuesday night, and the short-handed Cougars fell to the Raiders 47-24.

Bailey Tabeling led them in scoring with 12 points, Liza Froedge added 7, Kailene Cockerham 2, Carson Bowling 2 and Madison Keith 1.

Trinity, the No. 5-ranked team in Class A, is now 6-2 on the season.

Due to players being out with illness, Trinity’s game today against Christian Academy has been moved to Jan. 8, and the game at Orleans on Saturday also has been postponed with a future date yet to be announced.

The Cougars plan on returning to action Dec. 17 when they are scheduled to play at Southwestern (Hanover) at 7:30 p.m.

Braves drop game at Salem

The Brownstown Central girls basketball team went on the road to take on Salem, which is ranked No. 8 in Class 3A.

Salem built a 34-13 lead on Brownstown Central at halftime and went on to a 61-28 Mid-Southern Conference win Tuesday night.

Salem held a 53-22 lead after three periods to improve to 2-0 in the MSC and 6-2 overall.

Maddy Hackman was the high scorer for Brownstown with 12 points, Emma Klinge scored 10, Mallory Klosterman 3, Peyton Brock 2 and Andrea Bair 1.

The Braves (1-3 MSC, 3-7) will travel to Austin on Saturday for a 1:30 varsity start.

Boys basketball

Hornets nearing first game

The Medora boys basketball team still has yet to get its 2021-22 season underway.

The Hornets were quarantined at the start of the season and had their first couple of games pushed back.

They were supposed to open the season Tuesday at Crothersville, but the Tigers are now quarantined and will be out of action for the next 10 days.

But the wait is almost over for the Hornets. They are scheduled to play their first game Friday at Martinsville Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m.
