Santa’s Holiday Tour visiting Seymour neighborhoods next week

Lights will flash from Seymour police cars and firetrucks as they travel through city neighborhoods next week.

Don’t be alarmed. Santa Claus is coming to town.

The Seymour Chamber of Commerce had to cancel its Home for the Holidays event scheduled for Nov. 28 and there’s no Santa House this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the organization wanted to ensure kids still had an opportunity to see Jolly Ol’ St. Nick.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday next week, Santa’s Holiday Tour will arrive in a different city council district each night. He will be on a Seymour Fire Department truck that’s decorated with special holiday lighting and escorted by a Seymour Police Department vehicle. Listen for the sirens and Christmas music to know he’s getting closer to your home.

People are asked to not enter the street as Santa approaches. He will see everyone and have a treat for all who come out to see him.

“We partnered with Brad Lucas and his team at SFD and with Bryant Lucas at SPD, and everyone ran with their piece of it,” said Sasha Norman, event coordinator for the chamber. “We reached out to our Home for the Holidays sponsors, and many of them got behind the Santa’s Holiday Tour concept, as well.”

The schedule is District 1 on Monday, District 2 on Tuesday, District 3 on Wednesday, District 4 on Thursday and District 5 on Friday. See the map attached to this story to see when Santa will visit your area.

People also can follow the Smalltown Strong Facebook page for updates on the tour.

“Everyone is encouraged to come out and see Santa but to stay clear of the street for safety reasons,” Norman said.

The hope is the tour brings a little Christmas cheer to all citizens during this difficult holiday season, she said.

“While we were disappointed to have to cancel the Home for the Holidays event, we believe that the Santa’s Holiday Tour offers something fun and uplifting for the community,” Norman said.

She appreciates the Home for the Holidays sponsors for shifting their support to the tour. Sponsors include Bailey and Wood Financial Group, Centra Credit Union, Covered Bridge Health Campus, Jackson County Visitor Center, Mann Bookkeeping and Tax Service, Schneck Medical Center, Seymour Chamber of Commerce, Seymour Fire Department, Seymour Police Department, SIHO, T-Mobile and The Tribune.

“We are grateful for their flexibility and support of the alternate event/change of plans,” Norman said.

As soon as she pitched the idea to the police and fire departments, they immediately got behind it 100%.

“They also see this as an opportunity to spread some Christmas cheer during a difficult year,” Norman said. “This could possibly become a new holiday tradition for the city of Seymour.”
