Mr. Michael Gene Wood, 73, of Seymour, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour, Indiana surrounded by his family. He was born in 1947 in Washington, Indiana to the late Robert and Lucille (Wratten) Wood. On November 7, 1964, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, Mike married Rita K. (Davis) Wood.

Mike was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School in Washington, Indiana. He also was a tool and die maker by trade and retired from Cummins Engine Company after 42 years of service. Mike was passionate about animals and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There wasn’t a cat, pig, or dog he wouldn’t rescue. Mike also in his younger years was an avid marathon runner. He competed in races across the country. He carried the torch for the 1986 Pan American Games and he also competed and completed the Boston Marathon. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and he will be missed terribly.

Survivors include His wife of 56 years Rita K. (Davis) Wood, Daughter Shannon (Wood) Parlagreco (Nathan Schwein), Michael Shane Wood (Kaci Wilson) Grandchildren Alexa (Collin) Ulrey, Jordan Parlagreco (Chad Stebbins), Sydney Parlagreco, Nicholas Parlagreco, Erin Parlagreco, Turner Hoffar. Great-grandchildren: Brennan Ulrey, Avery Ulrey, Reese Ulrey, Tara Parlagreco, Luke Parlagreco, Nathaniel Williams, Jaylin Wright, Terrance Wright, Alexus Wright and sister-in-law Vicki Davis.

Brothers: Dennis (Kathryn) Wood, Jimmy (Vicki) Wood, Sisters: Kathy Blint, Kristy Wood, Cecile (Norbert) Lindauer as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceeded by: His father Robert Wood, Mother Lucille Wood, brother Dana Wood and sister-in-law Linda Wood. Sister Roberta Wood, brother-in-law Rick Blint, son-in-law Terry Parlagreco and sister-in-law Linda Hudson.

A walk-thru visitation will be held on Tuesday at Voss Chapel from 4-6 PM. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Washington, Indiana at a later date.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are required before admittance to the funeral home as well as social distancing within the building. We kindly ask that there be no physical contact such as hugs or handshakes to protect staff and the family. Attendance is limited to 25 people at any given time.
