Janice “Dean” Warner, age 79, of Seymour, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at her home.

Born February 3, 1939 in Russell Springs, KY, she was the daughter of Herbert and Oretha Selby. Her education started in Kentucky and when they moved to Freetown, she finished her education there where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1957 from Freetown High School.

On July 4, 1957 in Freetown, she married Kenneth E. Warner, son of Earl “Bud” and Alberta (Elkins) Warner. Together they raised four children, Nick Warner, Wendy and Jack Schryer, Christina and Charles Elmore and Kendale and Maribeth Warner.

She was then blessed with 14 grandchildren, Kenny Warner, Janice and Jeremiah Cox, Nick II and Emily Warner, Mari and Kelly Hood, Jackie Schryer, Chris and Leah Schryer, Steven and Rona Warner, Nathan (Anna) Warner and Bethany Warner. She used to look forward to the start of school where she would take her grandkids to get school clothing.

Dean had 24 great-grandchildren, Jayson, Jaela and Juliana Cox, Angel, Cordia Asencio, Nicholas III, and Theodora Warner, Lilly & Milo Hood, William and Madeline Schryer, Avery, Alissa, Kaleb and Stephanie Warner, Jocelyn Perez, Shaylee, Kory and Logan Warner, and Dylan Collins, Bella, Matthew and Nikolai Wingler, Jasmine Hollin; one brother, Ronald Dale (Marlene) Selby.

Dean was an active member of Spraytown Free United Methodist Church. Over the years she served on the board, as secretary, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She also loved helping the kids with crafts during vacation bible school. Dean was former Regent of the Fort Vallonia chapter of DAR. She was a 4-H leader of boys and girls clubs. She helped many families with genealogy and other interests included her flowers and gardening and listening to old Elvis music. Dean was a seamstress and made a lot of her children’s clothes and even made her daughter and granddaughters wedding dresses. Dean loved her entire family and she will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Pastor Jerry Van Kuiken will conduct funeral services at 10:00am on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home and on Wednesday from 9:00am until service time. Burial will follow services at Spraytown Cemetery. Friends can make memorial contributions at the funeral home to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Spraytown Free Methodist Church.
