Seymour (12-3, 7-0 in the league) won its second league championship in the last three years. The Owls now own seven HHC titles since 1990.

Daniel Hartman, a constant and dangerous presence in front of the BNL net, scored twice in the first half to set the tone, while Keegan Sunbury added a goal and an assist.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Seymour coach Matt Dennis said. “These boys have worked incredibly hard. We never set out to go 7-0, but when you win a few games, you start to get in a rhythm. They came out tonight with hunger and fire, and played a complete game.”

The two fans blasting loud, distinctive vuvuzela’s in the Seymour section had plenty to celebrate from the start.

Blaine Spivey started the scoring, finally deflecting home a goal at 30:27 in the first half, after BNL’s Evan Payne blocked the first two shots.

Hartman dominated the next 25 minutes, ripping a blast into the upper right corner off Sunbury’s crossing pass at 19:59, then connecting again from close range at 5:40.

Seymour extended its 3-0 halftime advantage with two quick goals after intermission. Tyler Penegar found an opening at 32:29, and Sunbury got on the board with an unassisted goal at 29:14.

“This is unbelievable,” said Hartman. “We have a great group and I couldn’t ask for a better team. This is fantastic.”

The Stars (5-6-1, 1-5-1) finally broke through with 10:29 left as the brother connection of Hunter and Danny Cline worked together for a score. Danny deposited the goal off Hunter’s pass off what BNL coach Logan Jackson termed a “dirty goal, just a hustle play.”

“They had a couple of goals that you can’t do a whole lot about,” Jackson said. “Going 7-0 is pretty impressive. You don’t see that a lot.

“Other than that, we played pretty well with some of the best movement we’ve had. So we’re trending up going into the sectional.”

The postseason looms for both teams.

Seymour will face Jeffersonville on Tuesday at Jeff in the first round of the sectional. The Owls already own a 6-1 win over the Red Devils earlier this season.

BNL will tangle with Terre Haute South on Monday at Bloomington North.
