A 59-year-old Anderson man is in critical condition after a wreck late Sunday morning near Interstate 65, police report.

Charles Andrew Huffman sustained head injuries and was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis where he was listed in critical condition, Jackson County Officer Adam Nicholson said.

The wreck was reported to police at 11:26 a.m. in the 9000 block of State Road 11.

Nicholson said witnesses reported that Huffman’s 2000 Dodge Durango was traveling in the southbound lane when it crossed into the northbound lane, struck a guardrail on a bridge and hit a Ford F150 head on driven by Linley Kullman, 30, of Columbus.

Huffman’s vehicle then left the roadway and came to a rest 40 feet down an embankment.

Kullman was taken to Schneck Medical Center and was later released, Nicholson said. A small child was in a car seat in the truck, but was not injured, he said.

Both lanes of State Road 11 were closed for about an hour and a half as crews worked the scene.

Nicholson was assisted by Jackson County Officer Dustin Steward, Seymour Police Department, Jackson County Ambulance Service, Stat Flight and Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department.
