IHSAA announces baseball, softball pairings

The Indiana High School Athletic Association has announced pairings for the baseball and softball sectionals that will be played at the end of May.

The IHSAA also announced sectional assignments for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years for football, boys and girls basketball, volleyball, and boys and girls soccer.

The IHSAA also announced that girls’ wrestling and boys’ volleyball have been approved as varsity sports for the 2024-25 school year.

Seymour will host a Class 4A baseball sectional, Brownstown Central will play in the 2A South Ripley Sectional, and Trinity Lutheran and Crothersville will play in the Class 1A Shawe Memorial Sectional.

Sectionals will be played May 22 through Memorial Day (May 27).

Jeffersonville will face Bedford North Lawrence in the opening game at Seymour, and that will be followed by Seymour facing New Albany.

The winners of those games will battle in one semi-final game with Floyd Central facing Jennings County in the other semi with those winners advancing to the championship game.

Brown County and Milan will open the South Ripley Sectional, followed by Hauser facing South Ripley. Brownstown will play Austin and Switzerland County will take on Southwestern (Hanover) in the lower bracket with the winners advancing onto the semi-finals, then the finals.

Trinity Lutheran will play Rising Sun in the opening game at Shawe, followed by Crothersville playing Henryville. The semi-finals have the winners of games one and two playing, and Shawe playing New Washington with the winners advancing to the finals.

New Albany, Milan and New Washington will host softball sectionals and they will be played May 20-25.

Bedford North Lawrence and Floyd Central will play in the first game at New Albany, followed by Seymour facing New Albany. Jennings drew a bye and will play the winner of game one, and Jeffersonville drew the other bye and will play the winner of Seymour-New Albany, and those winners will play for the championship.

Brownstown will play Southwestern (Hanover) in the opening game at Milan with Hauser and Switzerland County to follow. Brown County will play Milan in game three, and South Ripley drew a bye and will play the winner of game one, followed by the winners of games two and three.

New Washington and Henryville will open the New Washington Sectional, with Trinity Lutheran playing Rising Sun in the second game. Crothersville drew a bye and will play the winner of game one, and the winners of two and three will advance to the finals.

Brownstown Central’s boys basketball team has been moved backup to Class 3A because of its success in winning the state title this year after advancing to the semi-state a year ago.

The Braves will be in the same sectional with Charlestown, Corydon, Madison, North Harrison and Silver Creek the next two years.

Seymour’s football team has also been moved as the Owls will be in Class 5A Sectional 14 with Columbus East, Franklin and East Central.

The IHSAA also split up the counties Class 1A teams with Crothersville and Trinity Lutheran going east and Medora will go west in boys and girls basketball and volleyball.

The IHSAA will hold state tournaments for girls wrestling and boys’ volleyball beginning this coming school year.

A news release from the IHSAA, said that over 1,400 girls from 177 schools (including Seymour) participated in girls wrestling last winter, while over 100 schools have boys volleyball.

Wrestling will be a winter sport and boys’ volleyball will be a spring sport.
