CROTHERSVILLE —A beautiful evening on Thursday led to a nice track meet between Crothersville, Medora and Scottsburg who competed in Crothersville in a triangular meet.

Scottsburg would emerge victorious in the girls’ and boys’ meet, while Crothersville took second in both, Medora finished third on both sides.

Crothersville scored 45.5 points on the boys side. Head Coach Matthew Otte spoke on the outcome on Thursday.

“We had some PR’s tonight, which is always nice,” he said. “We were missing a few guys, who altered a relay race. It was a beautiful night, and we had some good races, which is what we are always looking for when we compete.”

The boys had four wins on the evening. Dirk Crater won the 800-meter run, while Beau Napier took the top spot in the High Jump. Kaleb Moeller won the 300-meter hurdles, and the Tigers won the 4×400-meter relay.

Coach Otte’s team is young but seeing improvement.

“We’re just hoping to improve, three-quarters of our team are freshmen,” Otte said. “We’re just trying to improve, and looking to work and getting more comfortable will help us out a lot.”

Lady Tigers’ Head Coach Marc Bowman was happy with how the team performed in the meet.

“Overall, we were pretty happy,” Bowman said. “We had personal records in multiple events, which is something you can always be excited about.”

Crothersville dominated the girls’ throwing events. Hayden Pilgrim won the shot-put competition, while Brooklyn Bottorff was the winner of the discus throw. Jazlin Gibson won the event in the 400-meter dash.

Coach Bowman mentioned that the team is working towards the conference meet, before sectionals in the month of May.

“We need to just keep doing what we have been doing,” he said. “The team has gotten better at each meet and that’s all you can ask for.”

Medora Head Coach Carley McCammon spoke on the Hornets’ growth after the meet.

“I’m pretty pleased with how they performed,” she said. “We have seen a lot of improvement, especially since the first meet. It has been really cool to see the growth of this team from the beginning of the season until now.”

Hudson Johnson won the 200-meter dash for the Hornets, finishing in third place in the 100-meter competition. Kade Wright finished runner-up in the 800-meter run and the 110-meter hurdles.

On the girls’ side, Peyton Spence recorded a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run, while Lillian Hatchett finished in third place in the 100-meter dash.

McCammon is happy with the attitudes of the athletes on the team.

“They all have great attitudes, and all want to succeed and perform well as a team,” McCammon said. “I’ve got some boys and girls who have some natural ability for this, and there is a lot of potential for this team.”

Both teams are gearing up towards the final month of the regular season. Medora is back in action on Monday at Shoals, beginning at 5 p.m. Crothersville competes on Monday as well, on the road against Austin at 5 p.m.
