The Trinity Lutheran boys’ golf team hosted Jac-Cen-Del on Tuesday afternoon at Shadowood Golf Course here in Seymour.

After 9 holes of golf, the Cougars would drop the matchup to Jac-Cen-Del by 19 strokes. Trinity would score a 220 as a team, with the Eagles winning the match with a 201.

Trinity Head Coach Kim Overgaard spoke about the outcome with the Eagles on Tuesday.

“A little disappointing, I think we played as well as we could have,” Overgaard said. “But we are a young team, and that can make a big difference.”

The team was led by Wylie Jones and Alex Overgaard, who both carded 52’s for the Cougars. Rylan Adair scored a 57 in his 9 holes of work, Sam Lorenz also shot under 60, carding a 59 for Trinity.

Nolan Teipen recorded a 62, while Jeremiah Clay had a 67. Coach Overgaard spoke on the difference in the matchup for Trinity.

“They just weren’t mentally into it today as they have been in the other meets this season,” Overgaard said.

The Cougars head coach spoke on some positives from the team in the first handful of meets to begin the 2023-24 season,

“I’m liking our leadership so far this season from our junior in Wylie Jones,” Overgaard said. “He does a really good job of being the leader of this team.”

“A lot of younger guys look up to Wylie in times of need,” Overgaard said. “I’m also really pleased with how our two starting freshman are progressing in these first few meets.”

Trinity Lutheran will now prepare to compete at the Jennings County Invite on Saturday at 9 a.m. The team then turns around and hosts Henryville on Tuesday, Apr. 16th at 5 p.m.
