The Seymour girls golf team got back on the greens Monday against Columbus East.

The meet took place at Shadowood Golf Course with Seymour losing the match to the Olympians by five strokes.

Columbus East registered 200 as a team, while the Owls scored 205.

Katie Cottrill scored 44 in her nine holes of work to lead Seymour.

Emmy Followell put together a personal-best performance on Monday, scoring 47 for the team.

Shana Spray and Emily Windley both carded 57 on the day.

Seymour head coach Jim Hoffman spoke about the team’s performanc Monday.

“Emmy had her best performance on the course with her 47. Katie played to a steady 44 to lead the team,” he said. “We have to learn to maintain our composure better on the course. The mental side of the game is hurting us right now, in my opinion.”

The girls won’t get a break as they compete again today against Bedford North Lawrence and Jennings County.

The team will be out at Shadowood Golf Course once again and will start the match at 4:30 p.m.

“It will be a good test for us against Bedford and Jennings County,” Hoffman said. “I think we are tired after our meets on Thursday and Saturday. Saturday was a grueling, long day for the team. It was a six-hour round of golf, and it was very hot outside.”

The coach is still hopeful in the team and likes the way the Owls are heading at this point.

“We’re still trending up as we progress throughout the season,” he said. “We just need to relax and continue to play golf the best we can.”

The team will get a few days off before heading to compete in the Floyd Central Invitational on Saturday.

There will be multiple schools competing in this event.
