4-H entry for Jackson County Fair underway

Jackson County 4-H’ers: It’s time to get ready for the Jackson County Fair.

Fair Entry opened June 23 and closes July 7. Parents need to visit jacksoncountyindiana.fairentry.com to enter exactly what their child is bringing to the Jackson County Fair. A mailing went out last week with step-by-step instructions, and it also was emailed to families.

Every project (4-H building projects and animals) must be entered in Fair Entry. In 4-H Online, parents selected the general projects their child planned to complete (example: Foods or Woodworking), but in Fair Entry, they will indicate exactly what classes in which they plan to exhibit (example: Foods, Level A, Three Muffins or Woodworking, Level D, Picnic Table). They will use the same login information they created for 4-H Online.

Auction consignment information and pen reservations are being collected through Fair Entry this year. A mailing and email with instructions were sent out last week.

Youth enrolled in livestock projects need to complete the Indiana Quality Livestock Care Program in order to be able to show at the Jackson County Fair and Indiana State Fair.

As with 4-H Online, the Purdue Extension Jackson County office in the courthouse has computers set up for people to use. Stop by between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to use a computer or receive assistance in creating entries.

If your child changes their mind or you entered the wrong exhibit, contact the extension office at 812-358-6101.

If you do not preregister your exhibits in Fair Entry by July 7, you will need to do that on project check-in day. Save yourself time by doing this ahead of the deadline so you are ready to be checked in and get your projects judged in a timely manner. It is much quicker and easier to enter projects at home rather than waiting to get it done on project check-in day during the heat of the summer.

Barcodes and scanners will be used to get 4-H’ers and their projects checked in for the fair. All 4-H’ers need to do is register their projects in Fair Entry, and the extension office staff will take care of the rest.

Also, Bob Poynter Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Seymour is sponsoring T-shirts for every 4-H member exhibiting at the Jackson County Fair. Members are encouraged to wear this shirt on July 27 while at the fair. Those not attending the fair that day can wear it another day. Indicate shirt size in Fair Entry and plan to pick up the shirt at project check-in on July 19. Size must be indicated in Fair Entry in order to receive a free shirt.

The extension office will be mailing a paper copy of the July/August 2023 4-H Clover Connections Newsletter, so watch your mailboxes the next few weeks.
