Bull Dogs beat Braves

The Columbus North softball team improved to 18-1-1 on the season with a 16-3 win over Brownstown Central on Monday night.

Brownstown’s Rylee May set the career home run record with her 13th career homer on Monday. The record was previously held by assistant coach Katelyn Gray, who had 12. May also tied Renee Smith’s season record with six.

Brownstown had five hits on the night as May, Kelsey Schneider, Kinzee Dean, Emily Dillman and Rylin Huddleston all had one hit.

May’s three-run homer came in the fifth inning, scoring Schneider and Dean.

The Bull Dogs had 16 hits, including four home runs.

Huddleston pitched four innings and had five strikeouts, and May pitched two innings and had one strikeout.

The Braves (12-8) will be hosting Silver Creek at home later today.

Tennis

Braves take second in invite

The Brownstown Central girls tennis team placed second in the Eastern Invitational on Saturday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kaitlyn Williams and Bella Brown and No. 2 doubles team of Avery Harrison and Genna Preston were both champions in their respective brackets.

Jenna Bolte (three singles) and Leah Pottschmidt (two singles) each won one match.

The Braves (6-7) will play at the Musketeers later today at 5:30 p.m.

Trinity games canceled

All events that were scheduled to be played with Trinity Lutheran athletics on Monday were canceled.

The tennis team was hosting Henryville, the softball team was hosting Scottsburg and the baseball team was at Christian Academy.

Makeup dates for all three games are pending, according to the athletic department.

All three of those teams will be back in action later today. The tennis team is playing at Salem, the baseball team is hosting New Washington and the softball team is hosting Hauser.
