Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Five Star Company recently announced plans to close sections of State Road 446 starting on or after April 17 to complete a series of small structure replacements between State Road 58 and U.S. 50 in Lawrence County.

State Road 446 will close for up to 20 days at each of the following locations, weather permitting: Starting on or after April 17, approximately 1 mile north of U.S. 50 on State Road 446; starting on or after May 8, approximately 1.25 miles north of U.S. 50 on State Road 446.

Free Spirit Campground will be accessible from north State Road 446.

The $1.2 million contract was awarded to Five Star in February with a completion date set for late May. Traffic will be routed along the official detour, which follows U.S. 50 to State Road 37 to State Road 58. Access will be maintained for local residents, but thru traffic should use an alternate route.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
