Softball

Owls beat Red Devils

The Seymour softball team had a big game against Jeffersonville at home on Saturday morning as the Owls beat their Hoosier Hills Conference counterpart 11-6.

Seymour scored one in the second, six in the third, one in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Phoebe Underwood and Avery Stewart led the team in hits with three apiece, Alexia Rieckers had two hits and Jamie Bobb, Delaney Warren, Abby Followell, Alexa Dannettelle, Taylor Stuckwisch and Mackenzie Bryson all had one hit.

Rieckers had four RBI, Stewart had three RBI and Underwood and Dannettelle each had one RBI.

Rieckers pitched 1.1 innings and had two strikeouts, and Underwood pitched the other 5.2 innings and also had two strikeouts.

The Owls are now 2-3 this season and will play at Mitchell today.

Cougars drop two at Rising Sun

The Trinity Lutheran softball team ran into some stiff competition at the Rising Sun Invite on Saturday.

The Cougars’ first game came against Triton Central, and they lost 8-0. Olivia Cain and Madison Keith each had one hit for Trinity.

Grace Lance pitched the whole game, and she ended with seven strikeouts.

The second game came against Rising Sun, and the Shiners won 8-2.

Keith went 2-for-3 for Trinity to lead the way, and Lance again pitched the distance, this time striking out three.

The Cougars are now 4-2 this season and will next play today at home against Rock Creek Academy.

Tigers open season

The Crothersville softball team got its 2023 season underway with the Sue Siekman Classic Round Robin against Southwestern (Hanover) and Oldenburg Academy.

In the first game against the Rebels, the Tigers lost 17-0. Dacie Hughes pitched four innings and gave up 11 runs. Zoey Prince pitched one inning and gave up six runs. The Tigers couldn’t get a hit in the game but managed three walks on offense.

In the second game, Oldenburg won 16-0. Hughes pitched four innings and gave up 13 runs, and Prince pitched one inning and gave up three runs.

The Tigers had four hits in the game, coming from Hughes, Laekon Colwell, Kendall Berry and Grace Walker.

Crothersville (0-2) will next play on Tuesday at home against West Washington.

Golf

Owls compete at Floyd Central

The Seymour boys golf team shot a 375 at the Floyd Central Invite on Saturday.

Evansville North was the team winner with a score of 313.

Leading the way for Seymour was Manny Fontanez with an 81, followed by Ty Stuckwisch 89, Trevor Alberring 101, Noah Surface 104 and Luke Baker 106.

The Owls will play again today at Madison.

Tennis

Seymour places third at Silver Creek

The Seymour girls tennis team played in the Silver Creek Invite on Saturday, and the Owls finished third place out of eight teams.

Elise Hartung placed second in the No. 2 singles bracket, and Ava Sunbury and Addison Hunsley also placed second overall in the No. 1 doubles bracket.

Jessica Hougland was fourth in the No. 3 singles bracket, Caroline Thompson and Marlo Cornn were fifth in the No. 2 doubles bracket and Brooke Schafstall was sixth in the No. 1 singles bracket.

Seymour (1-1) will host Scottsburg on Tuesday night at 4:30 p.m.
