Professional banjo player to visit library

The Jackson County Public Library is hosting Traditional Arts Indiana artist Jim Smoak at 1 p.m. April 22 in the meeting room at the Seymour Library, 303 W. Second St.

This free program is sponsored by Friends of the Jackson County Public Library.

Smoak, who plays the banjo, began playing professionally in the 1950s and has performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage and toured with several groups during the 1950s and ’60s, including Bill Monroe, Little Jimmy Dickens, Hylo Brown and The Cumberlands.

Smoak is a 2022 Indiana Heritage Fellow, and the team of Smoak and Jeffrey Vessels is a 2022 Apprenticeship Pair.
