Braves dominate at home

The Brownstown Central softball team got two wins at home on Saturday, defeating Southwestern (Hanover) 16-0 and North Decatur 27-2.

Against the Rebels, the Braves scored 10 runs in the first inning and score two runs each in the next three.

Rylee May shut out Southwestern in the circle, pitching all five innings, only allowing two hits and striking out eight.

Brownstown had 11 hits in the game, coming from Kelsey Schneider (2), Olivia Justice (2), Kinzee Dean (2), Adelynn Anderson (2), Brooke Meahl (1), Kyndle Huddleston (1) and May (1).

May, Huddleston, Justice and Anderson each had two RBI, while Schneider, Emily Dillman, Meahl, Dean and Erica Warren all had one RBI.

In the game against North Decatur, Rylin Huddleston pitched all five innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out 11 batters.

The Braves had 20 hits in the game, coming from Schneider (3), Dean (3), Dillman (2), May (2), Justice (2), Sophie Wayt (2), Anderson (2), Lizzie Pollert (2), K. Huddleston (1) and Meahl (1).

Dean had four RBI, May and Justice both had three, Dillman, Meahl, Wayt and Pollert all had two RBI and Schneider, Huddleston and Haley Derringer all had one RBI.

Brownstown is now 2-1 this season and will next play today at Bedford North Lawrence.

Baseball

Braves split in Bloomington

The Brownstown Central baseball team played two games at Bloomington South on Saturday, and the Braves were able to split them.

Brownstown lost 2-1 to Bloomington South and then defeated Edgewood 10-3.

Against South, BC only managed one hit, which came from Lane Pendleton. Ethan Garland pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out six.

The Panthers scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to get the victory.

Brownstown is now 2-1 on the season and will play at Seymour today at 6 p.m.

Trinity drops two at Austin

The Trinity Lutheran baseball team played two games at Austin on Saturday.

The Cougars lost 5-2 to Austin and 19-9 to South Ripley.

Against Austin, Sage Broughton had three hits, and Jackson Trueblood and Drake Goodpaster each had one. Goodpaster and Broughton both had an RBI with Broughton and Levi Pottschmidt accounting for the two runs.

Nathan Voelker pitched six innings, allowing eight hits, five runs and two walks while striking out eight Eagles.

Against South Ripley, Goodpaster had two hits, while Andrew Bell, Broughton, Trueblood and Chase Bode all had one. Trueblood and Goodpaster both had two RBI, and Bode had one.

Voelker, Bell and Broughton scored two runs, and Pottschmidt, Trueblood and Goodpaster each had one run.

Trueblood pitched .1 innings and had one strikeout, Goodpaster pitched 1.2 innings and struck out two and Bode pitched three innings with one strikeout.

The Cougars are now 1-4 this season and will next play on Tuesday at home against Rising Sun.

Seymour, Crothersville games postponed

The Seymour and Crothersville baseball teams had their games postponed on Saturday due to the inclement weather that took place on Friday night.

The Owls were scheduled to be home against Lanesville, while the Tigers were supposed to be at Cannelton.

Seymour (1-0) will play at home today against Brownstown Central, while Crothersville (0-0) will start its season on Wednesday at Borden.

Golf

Trinity plays at Edinburgh Invite

The Trinity Lutheran boys golf team opened its season at the Edinburgh Invitational on Saturday.

Jack Stuckwisch led the Cougars with a 91, Wylie Jones shot 108, Alex Overgaard 121 and Gabe Lorenz 124.

Trinity will next play on Tuesday at Salem against Austin, Clarksville and Salem.
