Youth theater workshop signups begin

Jackson County Community Theatre is looking forward to another fun year with its Jackson County Young Artists’ Theatre youth at the annual summer workshop.

Workshop dates are June 5 to 9, and registration is now open online at bit.ly/JCYATWorkshop. The cost is $20, which covers T-shirts, snacks and supplies for activities.

The sessions will be 9 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 6 to 9, 1 to 3:30 p.m. for ages 9 to 12 and 6:30 to 9 p.m. for ages 13 to 18 at the theater, 121 W. Walnut St., Brownstown.

Students attending the workshop can expect to learn about all aspects of theater, both onstage and behind the scenes. The skills include stage basics, movement, projection, diction, characterization, improvisation and technical aspects.

The workshop will end with auditions for the JCYAT summer show, Disney’s “Finding Nemo Jr.” This show will be a 60-minute musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie “Finding Nemo.” Performance dates will be July 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30.

Participation in the play is not required for workshop participants. By the same token, those who are unable to attend the workshop may audition for the play during a special session June 11.
