Larry D. Goss, age 79, of Freetown, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Goss retired from Brownstown Frozen Food Locker after 25 years of service. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, gardening, and woodworking, including building benches from barn wood, and he loved side by side rides with his wife, Janice. Larry was an avid horseback rider and enjoyed camping at Hoosier Horse Camp. He was a lifelong sports fan, especially enjoying Brownstown Braves basketball, Indiana University basketball, and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. He was also a lifelong member of the Hickory Hills Golf Club and Jackson County Spurs and Wheels Saddle Club, and a former member of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Posse.

Larry was adored by his family, friends, and neighbors, and he loved spending time with them, especially with Rhett and Rossi, sitting on the back porch.

Born on November 5, 1943, in Jackson County, he was the son of Kenneth and Marie Jolly Goss, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 17, 1968, at Ratcliff Grove Christian Church, he married Janice G. Lucas, and she survives in Freetown.

Survivors also include one brother, Ron (Brenda) Goss of New Albany; three sisters: Mary Goss of Brownsburg, Sharon Thickston of Brownsburg, and Wilma Goss of Seymour; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry was also preceded in death by two brothers: Joe Goss and Roger Goss; and three sisters: Wanda Barrett, Emma Jean Terkhorn, and Shirley Cogan.

Funeral services for Larry D. Goss will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with David Lucas officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ratcliff Grove Christian Church, Medora Goes Pink, or Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
