Cougars rout Lancers

The Trinity Lutheran baseball team started off its season the right way by blowing past Edinburgh on Monday night 17-0.

The Cougars put up 10 runs in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth.

Totaling 11 hits on the night, Trinity was led by Sage Broughton, Drake Goodpaster and Nathan Finke, who all had two hits apiece. Nathan Voelker, Andrew Bell, Jackson Trueblood, Kowan Gross and Peyton Pollert each had one hit.

Broughton’s two hits were a triple and a double, and Goodpaster and Gross each had a double as well.

Broughton had 5 RBI, Finke had 4, Goodpaster 2, Bell 2, Trueblood 1 and Pollert 1.

Voelker pitched a shutout for the Cougars on the mound. He pitched all five innings, striking out seven Lancers, only allowing one walk and one hit.

Trinity (1-0) will remain at home tonight for a game against Seymour at 5 p.m.

Softball

Owls game postponed

The Seymour softball team had its season-opener postponed at Brown County.

That game has been rescheduled for this Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Before that, the Owls will play at Shelbyville tonight and at Scottsburg on Thursday. Both of those road games will also be at 5:30 p.m.

Seymour’s home opener will be next Tuesday against Henryville.
