Police seeking help with solving fatality

Seymour police are asking for the public’s help with information about an incident that left a 73-year-old man dead and his daughter injured on Friday night.

“We’re offering a $500 reward for anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this,” Lt. C.J. Foster said of the incident that left Charles Laymon dead.

The Seymour man died after being struck by a motorist driving a dark-colored vehicle in the 600 block of South Vine Street at about 10:45 p.m. Friday. Laymon’s 33-year-old daughter, Tiffany Brewer, 36, also of Seymour, sustained injuries to her face, a hand and a leg after being struck by the same vehicle.

According to a news release from Foster, the two had been crossing the street when they were struck by the vehicle, which left the scene.

Patrol officers were called to the scene at about 10:46 p.m. to investigate a report of an unresponsive male lying in the street. Those patrol officers administered lifesaving measures until additional help could arrive.

A short time later, dispatchers received a second 911 call from a woman stating she had been hit by a vehicle.

Both Laymon and Brewer were treated at the scene by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and Seymour Fire Department before being taken to Schneck Medical Center. Laymon was pronounced dead at the Seymour hospital.

Foster said on Monday that he did not have any information about whether Brewer was still hospitalized.

He said anyone with information about the incident can call Seymour Police Department at 812-522-1234.
