A 37-year-old Illinois man lost his life in a crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 65 near Uniontown in Jackson County.

Frederick D. Felder of Chicago died at about 4 a.m. when the 2016 Freightliner he was driving southbound left the west side of I-65 near the 43 mile marker for an unknown reason and struck trees and a fence before coming to a rest, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles.

Wheeles, public information officer for the Indiana State Police Versailles Post, said first responders found Felder dead inside the truck, and the investigation is ongoing to determine whether he died as a result of the crash or because of a medical condition.

Toxicology results are pending, although alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors, police said. The right lane of southbound I-65 was closed for several hours to allow for the investigation and cleanup.

Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted along with personnel from Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, Seymour Fire Department, Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.
