Nomination deadline extended for state environmental awards

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management will continue to accept nominations for the 2023 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence until March 17.

Citizens, government agencies, businesses, organizations and educational institutions are invited to submit nominations. Self-nominations are encouraged. Nominated projects must have occurred in Indiana and been implemented in 2021 or 2022.

These are the most prestigious environmental awards given in the state. This year, IDEM and Gov. Eric Holcomb’s office will present seven awards, one in each of the following categories: Energy Efficiency/Renewable Resources; Environmental Education/Outreach; Five-Year Continuous Improvement; Greening the Government; Land Use/Conservation; Pollution Prevention; and Recycling/Reuse.

Nomination forms and instructions are available online at idem.in.gov/partnerships/governors-awards-for-environmental-excellence.

A panel of conservation, environmental and academic professionals will review nominations. The awards will be based on project innovation, measurable results and transferability.

Awards will be presented in September.

In 2022, award winners included Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, Paramount Schools of Excellence, AstraZeneca Mount Vernon Operations, Indianapolis Public Schools, Big Pine Creek Watershed, Cummins Inc. and the city of Monticello.
