Seymour boys place fifth at HHC

The Seymour boys swimming and diving team placed fifth overall at the Hoosier Hills Conference meet on Saturday at Highland Hills Middle School.

The Owls scored 139 points and finished ahead of New Albany and Jennings County. Floyd Central won the meet with 348 points.

Seymour’s Paul Montgomery placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.29, and he was fifth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.64.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Seymour tied with Jeffersonville for third place with a time of 1:34.85. Montgomery, Caden Harriss, Will Proffer and Aaron Drake made up that relay for the Owls.

Proffer, Chaze Combs, Lane Mellencamp and Harriss were fifth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.34, and Montgomery, Larry Simons, Grant Smith and Drake were fourth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.14.

Proffer was seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:03.77), and Kaleb Brown was sixth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 223.45.

The boys will be off this week before hosting Providence and Henryville next Monday. Meanwhile, the girls will be at Highland Hills this Thursday and Saturday for sectional.

Bowers, Hornets make history

For the first time ever, the Medora girls basketball team played in the championship game in the Southern Roads Conference tournament.

The Hornets started out the tournament on Saturday by defeating Bloomington Lighthouse 64-53 in the semifinal.

Jenna Bowers again broke her record for most points in a single game in program history as she scored 42 points against the Lions.

Aaralyn Hackney added 18 points in the win over Lighthouse, and Madison Reece scored four.

In the championship match, Medora took on Cannelton, who beat Columbus Christian 33-28 in the other semifinal game.

The Bulldogs were able to top the Hornets Saturday night at Seven Oaks 56-30.

Bowers had 15 points in that game, Hackney had 10, Peyton Spence four and Isabelle Spence one.

Medora (4-14) will play against Rising Sun at Rising Sun this Tuesday in the first round of sectional.

Boys basketball

Medora edges out Vincennes Rivet

The Medora boys basketball team ended a four-game losing skid on Saturday night with a victory over Vincennes Rivet 54-51.

Braxton McCory and Shepard Earl each scored 16 points to lead Medora in scoring. Damian Salas was right behind them with 15 points, Hudson Johnson scored four and Jaxon Nugen had three.

The Hornets are now 5-9 this season and will next play at New Washington on Thursday night.

Trinity falls at Jac-Cen-Del

The Trinity Lutheran boys basketball team lost 56-38 at Jac-Cen-Del on Saturday night.

Kole Shewmaker had 10 points, Eli Ballard scored eight, Jack Stuckwisch eight, Luke Coomler five, Levi Pottschmidt three, Kowan Gross two and Peyton Pollert two.

Trinity (5-11) will play at Greenwood Christian on Thursday night.

Tigers drops game at Shiners

The Crothersville boys basketball team had a close game with Rising Sun on Saturday night, but the Shiners topped the Tigers 52-47.

Preston West had 20 points for Crothersville, Curtis Thompson had 19 and Beau Napier scored eight. Thompson also had 10 rebounds.

Crothersville (5-9) will play at home against Columbus Christian on Friday night.
