The Trinity Lutheran and Medora girls basketball teams head to Rising Sun High School tonight to begin their postseason journey.

The Cougars will kick things off first with a matchup against Shawe Memorial at 6 p.m.

Trinity is 18-6 this season and takes a three-game winning streak into the contest. The Hilltoppers (16-5) are coming in red hot to this game as they have won 10 straight games.

Shawe hasn’t lost a game since Dec. 8. Drew Kring is in his first year as head coach with the team.

The Cougars are going for a fourth straight sectional title. Senior Bailey Tabeling is a three-time sectional champion, and she leads Trinity in scoring this season with 23 points per game.

Madison Keith is second on the team with 11.7 points per game, and Liza Froedge and Jordan Brewer both average 9.8. The Cougars also get key contributions from Morgan Brewer and Laura Roeder.

Trinity and Shawe did not play in the regular season, but both teams are undefeated against the other four teams in the sectional — Crothersville, New Washington, Rising Sun and Medora.

The winner of tonight’s game between the Cougars and Hilltoppers will play Crothersville in the semifinal on Friday night.

The second game tonight features host school Rising Sun (10-11) taking on Medora (4-14).

This is Medora’s first season back in the fold after not having a girls basketball program for the previous two seasons.

Despite having a lot of inexperience, the Hornets have had some success this season, in large part due to Jenna Bowers and Aaralyn Hackney, who are both averaging double digit points this season.

Led by head coach Roger Bane, Medora is fresh off making the championship game of the Southern Roads Conference tournament for the first time in program history.

The Hornets beat Bloomington Lighthouse on Saturday behind 43 points from Bowers and 18 from Hackney to reach the finals against Cannelton.

Medora will have its hands full tonight against the Shiners.

Rising Sun beat Medora 62-15 back on Dec. 12. They are led in scoring by Baylee Morris (11.7 ppg) and Alyssa Simpson (10.4 ppg).

The winner of Medora and Rising Sun will advance to play in the second semifinal game on Friday night against West Washington.

The sectional championship game will take place on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
