Trinkle rains 3s in victory

Brooke Trinkle used a record-breaking performance to help lead the Seymour girls basketball team to a 69-38 victory at North Harrison on Saturday afternoon.

Trinkle hit a school record seven 3-pointers in the game to score 25 points for the Owls.

Kendall Sterling added 21 points, Journee Brown scored 17, Claire Marshall had two, Sophie Skidmore had two and Jaidyn Nichols had two.

Saturday’s win also marked the first time Seymour has won at North Harrison. They were previously 0-4 in that building before rolling to a victory.

The Owls are now 12-5 this season and will play at Center Grove on Saturday.

Cougars fall at Scottsburg

The Scottsburg girls basketball team jumped on Trinity Lutheran early on Saturday afternoon and rolled to an 81-61 victory over the Cougars.

Madison Keith had 20 points to lead the Cougars in scoring, Bailey Tabeling scored 16, Jordan Brewer had 12, Liza Froedge nine, Laura Roeder two and Morgan Brewer two.

Trinity is now 14-4 this season and will next play at No. 1-ranked Lanesville on Tuesday night.

Charlestown bests Brownstown

The Brownstown Central girls basketball team suffered a 44-28 loss on Saturday afternoon at Charlestown.

The Braves were only down 29-26 before Charlestown went on a big run to secure the victory.

Kalee Borden and Jenna Klosterman each scored seven points to pace the Braves. Camryn Thompson scored four points, Kelsey Schneider scored three and Maddy Hackman was held to a quiet night with just one made free throw and zero made field goals on the night.

With the loss, Brownstown falls to 13-5 on the season and 4-3 in the Mid-Southern Conference. The Braves will look to bounce back on Thursday at home against Greensburg.

Crothersville falters against Lanesville

The Crothersville girls basketball team struggled to find its offense on Saturday afternoon, losing to No. 1-ranked Lanesville 65-8 at home.

Hali Burton scored four points for the Tigers, Kendall Berry had two and Morgan Womack had two. Burton also had eight rebounds, and Womack had six.

The Tigers fall to 0-12 on the season and will next play on Saturday at Dugger Union.

Boys basketball

Medora falls short at Eminence

The Medora boys basketball team played a close game with Eminence on Saturday night, but it was the home team thar was able to win the game 65-56.

Medora used a big second quarter to take a 30-26 lead at halftime, but Eminence responded with a big third quarter to regain the lead and never look back.

Shepard Earl led the Hornets with 19 points on the night, Braxton McCory scored 14, Hudson Johnson had 12, Damian Salas had eight, Dawson Cornett two and Jaxon Nugen one.

The Hornets are now 3-4 this season and will be at home tonight against Bloomington Lighthouse.

Swimming and diving

Floyd Central tops Seymour

The Seymour boys and girls swimming and diving team went on the road to Floyd Central on Saturday for a Hoosier Hills Conference matchup.

The Highlanders won the girls meet 138-42 and won the boys meet 130-53.

First-place finishers for Seymour featured Paul Montgomery in the 50 free in 22.56, Montgomery also won the 100 free in 51.23 and Kaleb Brown won the 1-meter dive with a score of 236.18.

In the girls meet, Addy Castetter was third in the 200 IM (2:34.71) and 100 fly (1:07.59), Katya Cox was third in the 50 free (26.54) and 100 free (58.96) and Grace Lewis was second in diving (240). Lauren Bode, Makenna Greenawalt, Castetter and Lillian Simons placed second in the 200 medley relay in 2:06.83.

Larry Simons was third in the 200 free (2:02.9) and Lane Mellencamp was third in the 200 IM (2:14.15). Montgomery, Aaron Drake, Will Proffer and Mellencamp were second in the 400 free relay in 3:36.60. That same four also were second in the 200 free relay in 1:36.54.

Next up, the Seymour girls (10-2) will host the HHC meet this Thursday at 6 p.m. and this Saturday at 1 p.m.

The boys (10-2) will be off this week before competing against Bedford North Lawrence on Jan. 17.
