A 34-year-old Jennings County woman faces charges related to a domestic disturbance Friday afternoon in North Vernon, police report.

Amberley Rachelle Day of North Vernon was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement and reckless driving after an incident reported at 5:29 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of Sixth Street, according to a news release from Sgt. Isaac Barkes.

Barkes, who is the department’s public information officer, said officers were dispatched to a residence in that area in regards to a domestic disturbance but before arriving at the residence, dispatch advised one of the parties identified as Day had left the residence in a vehicle.

Soon after, Sgt. Lucas Newsom located the vehicle driven by Day and was able to get behind it, but Day increased her speed and committed multiple other traffic violations, Barkes said.

Newsom then activated his emergency lights and siren, but Day continued to drive away and committed other violations, he said.

Upon discovering nothing physical had been reported during the domestic dispute, Newsom stopped following Day and responded to the residence, Barkes said.

A short time later, the vehicle Day driving was located on the side of the road in the 500 block of West Walnut Street and reported to dispatch.

A Jennings County officer arrived on scene and was advised by bystanders that Day had run from the vehicle into the bathroom of a convenience store wearing only a shirt and underwear.

Shortly afterward, county officers and city Officer Nathan Vogel located Day hiding on top of the freezers in the back of the store, arrested her and took her to the Jennings County Jail in North Vernon.

Personnel with Lucas Wrecker assisted.
