Delivering the goods

Thumbs up to the workers with Walmart Transportation who recently purchased nonperishable food, personal hygiene products and other items and delivered them in two trucks to the Shed for You community building in Freetown.

Making an impact

Thumbs up to everyone involved in making both the Christmas at Crossroads in Seymour and the 50th annual Medora Christmas Festival on Dec. 3 and Tuesday’s Hometown Christmas in Brownstown successful. Such events generally take plenty of volunteers to pull off but help build better communities.

Top firefighters

Thumbs up to the members of the Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department who were recognized Dec. 3 during the department’s annual end-of-year celebration at Rails Craft Brew and Eatery in Seymour. Those honored were Chief Benjamin Spencer, 2022 Fire Officer of the Year; Morgan Hill, 2022 Firefighter of the Year; and Teia Thomas, 2022 EMT of the Year.

Cops and kids

Thumbs up to the members and others associated with Fraternal Order of Police Donald M. Winn Lodge 108 who raised enough money to give 101 children $150 to spend on Christmas presents at Walmart Supercenter in Seymour. A related thumbs up to everyone who donate to various FOP fundraisers for the Cops and Kids program each year.

Above and beyond

Thumbs up to the Crothersville FFA chapter that was recently recognized with the Crothersville Town Council’s certificate of appreciation of excellence in community service award for December. The purpose of the award is to recognize an outstanding local resident, club or organization that goes above and beyond to give back in a huge way. Council Vice President Jamy Greathouse said this month’s recipient is an organization that has been creating gold leaders in the community since 1956.

Player of the Week

Thumbs up to Brownstown Central junior Jack Benter, who was one of six players to earn the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Franciscan Health Player of the Week honors for games played the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 3. Benter, the District 3 recipient, scored a total of 98 points across the Braves’ three games that week. Thumbs up also goes to Trinity Lutheran senior Bailey Tabeling, who was one of six honorees for games played the week of Dec. 5 to 10. Also representing District 3, Tabeling totaled 83 points in the Cougars’ three games that week.
