Center seeks children’s clothing donations

The Jackson County Clothing Center has been overwhelmed with clients in need of children’s clothing.

Volunteers for the nonprofit organization are making a plea for any size children’s clothing for school and chilly autumn days. This includes underwear, pajamas, shorts, T-shirts, dresses, swimsuits, tennis shoes, jeans, jackets, sweatshirts and coats.

“The Jackson County Clothing Center is serving more families than ever,” said Cheryl Vierling, secretary of the clothing center’s board of directors. “School clothes, shoes, personal items and jackets are flying off the shelves.”

Clothing is needed for infants, toddlers and kids in preschool through high school. All donations should be clean and ready for distribution.

Donations can be dropped off at the center, 622 W. Second St., Seymour, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays or between 1 and 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. A drop box is available on the front porch.

Monetary donations may be made at the center or by mailing a check to Jackson County Clothing Center, 622 W. Second St., Seymour, IN 47274.

“All donations are greatly appreciated as well as monetary support for utilities and special needs that are not covered by donations,” Vierling said.

Volunteers are always welcome, too, and speakers are available for clubs, organizations, churches or schools to share information on volunteering, donating or supporting the organization in other ways.

The clothing center operates on donations and volunteers exclusively and is serving more families now that COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have lifted and the economy is changing.

“If you or a group from your church or organization can give one afternoon a month, that would be terrific,” Vierling said. “If you have someone interested in serving on our board of directors, please let us know. If you have a group willing to come and clean the center or sort donations, call.”

Anyone with questions, needing donations picked up or wanting to drop in to see what’s happening at the clothing center, call Vierling at 812-528-0747.

The center’s phone number is 812-522-7331, and information also can be found online at facebook.com/jacksoncountyclothingcenter.
