Owls tie for third at Silver Creek

SELLERSBURG — The Seymour boys tennis team tied for third place with Loogootee, which is ranked No. 30, at the Silver Creek Invite on Saturday morning.

The Owls scored 27 points on the day. Floyd Central won with 54 points, Evansville North was second (29), Castle and Silver Creek were sixth (15), Greensburg was seventh (10) and Lawrenceburg was eighth (0).

Eli Meyer placed fifth overall at one singles, Hunter Heckman placed second overall at two singles and Reuben Kruse placed second overall at three singles.

Jack VonDielingen and Joe Schmidt placed second overall at one doubles, and Parker Thompson and Drew Handloser placed sixth overall at two doubles.

The Owls are 8-1 overall this season as a team and will host New Albany on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Owls play in Hoosier Cup

BLOOMINGTON — The Seymour girls soccer team competed in the Hoosier Cup in Bloomington on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Owls took on the No. 17-ranked team in Class 1A in Northeast Dubois, and Seymour came out on top 1-0.

Kate Connell scored the deciding goal for Seymour, and keeper Jessica Hougland had five saves and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.

Seymour was scheduled to play two more games on Saturday, but all games were canceled due to weather.

The Owls are now 4-2 this season (1-0 HHC) and will be at home on Thursday to New Albany.

Volleyball

Cougars go 3-1 at Barr-Reeve Invitational

BARR-REEVE — The Trinity Lutheran volleyball team went 3-1 at the Barr-Reeve Invitational on Saturday.

The Cougars defeated Indy Lutheran 24-26, 25-20, 15-12; defeated Perry Central 25-19, 25-9; defeated Tecumseh 25-19, 25-9; and lost in the championship match to Barr-Reeve 15-25, 25-23, 13-15.

Bailey Tabeling totaled 56 kills across the four matches to lead the team, followed by Carson Bowling with 27. Addison Darlage and Drew Hubbard both served five aces, while Laura Roeder served three.

Roeder had 50 digs, Darlage had 28 and Tabeling had 26. Tabeling also had nine blocks, and Darlage had 92 assists.

Trinity is now 10-5 this season and will host Bedford North Lawrence on Thursday.

Owls go 2-2 in Avon Invite

AVON — The Seymour varsity volleyball team split its matches 2-2 at the Avon Invite on Saturday.

The Owls started the day with a 25-23, 13-25, 15-5 victory over Carmel. Then Seymour lost to Assumption (school from Kentucky) 23-25, 23-25.

Seymour beat Martinsville 25-8, 25-11, then took on Floyd Central in the crossover game, and the Highlanders won 25-21, 25-18.

As a team, Seymour hit 253-275 with 92 kills across its four matches. Olivia Fish went 119-128 with 47 kills, Cali Cummings went 41-47 with 16 kills and Breanna Lawrence went 34-36 with 12 kills. The Owls served 173-186 with 16 aces. Lawrence served 36-36 with six aces, Addi Lemon served 38-40 with three aces, and Raeann Baker served 23-25 with three aces.

Lemon had 63 digs, and Greer Henry had 34 digs.

The Owls’ JV team was also at the Avon Invite, and they went 1-3. They lost to Assumption, Avon and Carmel, and the Owls defeated Martinsville 25-24, 25-22.

Maddie Schrader totaled 14 kills across the games, while Emerson Johnson had eight and Zoe Williams had seven. Delaney Thomasma served seven aces, Schrader had six and Jamie Bobb had three. Kenzie Gagner had 20 assists, and Schrader had 29 digs.

The JV team record is now 7-5.

Seymour varsity is now 11-4 this season and will next play Scottsburg on Thursday.

Braves go 1-2 at Providence

PROVIDENCE — The Brownstown Central volleyball team played three matches at the Early Bird Tournament at Providence on Saturday, and the Braves went 1-2.

Brownstown lost to Roncalli 25-14, 25-21 and lost to Fishers 25-10, 25-16. The Braves then ended the day on a high note, defeating Center Grove 27-25, 14-25, 15-11.

The weekend now puts Brownstown 6-7 overall. The Braves are 1-0 in the Mid-Southern Conference and have two big conference matchups this week and both are at home. They will take on Charlestown on Tuesday and Silver Creek on Saturday.
