Boys soccer

Owls beat Red Devils

The Seymour boys soccer team put the pressure on Jeffersonville on Tuesday night, out-shooting the Red Devils 21-6 as the Owls left with a 2-0 victory.

The first goal came eight minutes into the second half when Amir Morales fired a 40-yard diagonal kick. The second goal came with 22 minutes remaining as Jovany Martinez sent in a ball to Sotaro Miyagawa, who headed it in the net. Will Smith had three saves in goal for Seymour.

The Owls’ JV team lost 1-0 on Tuesday to Jeff.

Seymour is now 3-4 this season (1-0 HHC) and will play at Columbus East on Thursday for the O-Cup.

Cougars lose 6-0

The Trinity Lutheran boys soccer team suffered a 6-0 loss at Christian Academy on Tuesday night.

The Cougars, now 1-4-1 this season, will play at Hauser on Thursday.

Tennis

Cougars beat Clarksville

The Trinity boys tennis team swept Clarksville 5-0 on the road on Tuesday.

Solomon Hall won 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 at one singles, Jonathan Neawedde won 6-1, 6-3 at two singles, Jack Stuckwisch won 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 at three singles, and the one doubles team of Nathan Voelker and Nathan Finke won 6-1, 6-0. Clarksville’s forfeited the two doubles spot.

The Cougars are now 4-2 this season and will play Waldron at home on Thursday.

Golf

Braves play at Paoli

The Brownstown girls golf team competed against Paoli and Eastern (Pekin) at Green Acres Golf Course on Tuesday.

Paoli shot a 223, Brownstown shot a 224 and Pekin shot a 251.

Gracie Reynolds led the Braves with a 50, followed by Emma Hughbanks 57, Megan VonDielingen 58, Abby Schroer 59 and Jayda Clodfelder 64.

Brownstown will next play at Mitchell on Thursday.

Seymour, Trinity play at BNL

The Seymour girls golf team posted a 200 on Tuesday at Otis Park Golf Course. Bedford North Lawrence shot a 176 and the Stars’ B team shot a 203.

Lainey Jackson led Seymour with a 44, followed by Liza Stuckwisch 45, Katie Cottrill 53, Emmy Followell 58, Emily Windley 64, Lily Combs-Smith 65 and Maria Ruiz 69.

Trinity’s Allie Schocke also played, and she shot a 63.

The Owls are off until they return back to Otis Park on Sept. 10 for the Hoosier Hills Conference match.

Volleyball

Cougars post upset victory

Trinity Lutheran’s volleyball team came up with a huge win Tuesday night by defeating Loogootee 27-25, 25-13, 25-11 in the Bollinger Athletic Complex.

Loogootee came into the match ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 1A.

Bailey Tabeling led the team with 21 kills, Carson Bowling had 14 and Drew Hubbard had seven. Laura Roeder, Addison Darlage and Kiley Zabel each had one ace. Roeder had 27 digs, Tabeling 12 and Hubbard 10, and Darlage had 36 assists.

The Cougars improved their record to 6-4 and will host Christian Academy Thursday night.

Owls fall at Floyd

The Seymour volleyball team suffered a 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 loss at Floyd Central on Tuesday.

It’s only Seymour’s second loss of the season as the Owls go to 8-2 on the season. Earlier this week, Seymour was ranked No. 3 in the IHSVCA Class 4A rankings.

The Owls will at Jennings County on Thursday.

Braves host South

The Brownstown volleyball team played Bloomington South at home on Tuesday night.

The Braves’ freshmen team won 25-13, 25-18, led by Erica Warren and Mairi Shaw, who both had two kills. London Newberry had four aces while Warren and Kate Skaggs each had two.

The JV team also won 25-21, 25-12. Olivia Fritz and Paisleigh Peters each had three aces and Claire Brelage had two. Genna Preston had seven kills and Brelage had six.

Varsity results were unavailable at press time. The Braves will play at New Albany on Thursday.

Hornets beaten by Mustangs

Medora dropped a 25-5, 25-9, 25-16 varsity volleyball match at New Washington Tuesday night.

The Hornets, 0-4, will host Crothersville Thursday for a varsity only match beginning at 6 p.m.
