Brownstown wins Brown County Invitational

The Brownstown Central boys tennis team won the Brown County Invitational on Saturday.

Pierson Wheeler came in first place at two singles, Connor Gwin and Lane Steward came in first at one doubles and Evan Schneider and Elix Preston came in first at two doubles.

Wheeler won 6-0, 6-0 over Southwestern’s James Oliver and 6-1, 6-1 over Greencastle’s Jay Glotzloach. Gwin and Steward beat Greencastle 6-0, 6-1 and Brown County 6-1, 6-0. Schneider and Preston beat Southwestern 6-0, 6-2 and beat Greencastle 6-3, 6-1.

Smith Hackman lost to Greencastle’s Eli Callahan 6-1, 6-1 at one singles, and then Hackman bounced back to beat Southwestern’s Kyle Beck 8-0. Jayce Reaser played three singles for Brownstown, and he won his first match via forfeit and lost his second match 6-1, 6-0 to Greencastle’s Andrew Adams.

Jayce Reaser was second at three singles, while Hackman was third at one singles.

The Braves will play at Greensburg on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Trinity drops match

The Trinity Lutheran girls soccer team suffered a 6-0 loss at home to Oldenburg Academy on Saturday afternoon.

The Twisters scored two goals in the first half and four in the second half.

The Cougars will hope to rebound today when they play Austin at home.

Boys soccer

Cougars fall to Oldenburg

The Trinity Lutheran boys soccer team hosted Oldenburg Academy on Saturday afternoon and suffered a 7-1 defeat.

Levi Pottschmidt scored the Cougars’ lone goal of the game off of an assist from John Harris.

Trinity will look to bounce back at Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Cross-country

Seymour runs in Franklin Invitational

The Seymour girls cross-country team finished seventh while the boys finished 11th at the Franklin Invitational on Saturday.

Vivienne Siefker led the girls team with an eighth-place finish in 19:53.18. Kinsley Folsom was next, running a 21:43.85, followed by Gracie Adams 22:31.42, Lyndsey Greenawalt 22:38.03, AnnMarie Shuler 22:49.63, Kelly Beavers 23:22.34, Lauren Dowell 24:10.57, Grace Lewis 25:08.11, Genesis Zarate Bello 27:42.98, Kaelin Grube 28:17.34, Jenifer Hankins 29:49.58, and Caitlin Thomasma 29:51.59.

Jude Bane placed ninth overall for the boys with a time of 16:57.72. Carter Murphy ran a 18:32.19, Wes Proffer 18:46.35, Micah Jablonski 18:55.15, Sam Rockey 19:10.99, Landon Rivera 19:34.39, Kylan Ellerbe 19:34.74, Will Proffer 20:06.30, J.J. Myers 20:24.95, Ty Tormoehlen 20:29.94, Lucas Jablonski 20:36.54, Gavin Baugh 22:08.93, Miguel Anderson 23:59.68 and Harrison Wetzel 26:13.54.

The Owls will be off until Sept. 10 when they run in the Eagle Classic at Brown County.

Volleyball

Tigers win second straight

The Crothersville volleyball team won its second consecutive match on Friday night at Bloomington Lighthouse. The Tigers won 25-12, 25-16, 25-20.

Pearl Shirley served 18-19 with seven aces, Carlee Walker served 11-15 with five aces and as a team, Crothersville served 55-68 with 19 aces.

Crothersville hit 47-55 with six kills, and Shirley had half of those. Walker led the team with 16 digs.

The Tigers will host South Decatur tonight at 6 p.m.
