Legal Aid planning walk-in clinic at Seymour law firm

Legal Aid will hold a free walk-in clinic from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 7 at the law office of Montgomery Elsner and Pardieck, 308 W. Second St., Seymour.

The first hour of the clinic for low-income residents will be for those wishing to obtain general legal advice about adoptions, advance directives, family law, including child support modification, custody, divorce and parenting time, guardianships, landlord/tenant issues, powers of attorney, protective orders, simple wills and small estates.

There will be an eviction clinic from 4 to 5 p.m. Topics include the residential eviction process, negotiating with a landlord, obtaining free rental assistance, legal defenses to an eviction, damages hearings and money judgments and sealing of eviction records.

Individuals visiting the clinic can expect to receive a 10-minute consultation to answer general and eviction questions, offer legal information or to receive other limited pro se assistance or advice in person on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no need to register in advance.

Legal Aid is a nonprofit agency providing free civil legal services, attorney referrals and legal clinics to people in Pro Bono District I. Legal Aid serves Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Rush and Shelby counties.
