Mary Lou (Wallace) Spencer, 95, Johnson City, Tennessee, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mary Lou was born in Seymour, IN, raised in Brownstown, IN, by her late parents, Lew Downing and Viola Mae Grimes Wallace. She was a 1945 graduate of Brownstown High School and attended Erlham School of Nursing, Richmond, IN. In December of 1948, Mary Lou married Jack Guthrie Spencer, and she and her husband moved to Seymour, where they owned and operated Spencer’s Craft and Hobby for many years. Mary Lou moved to Johnson City, TN in 1994 to be closer to her family.

She was a former long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, Seymour, and a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City. Mary Lou was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, an avid Bridge player, loved to read, adult coloring books, and crossword puzzles. She had a wonderful life.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Jack Guthrie Spencer, in 1992, and her dear friend, Sidney Smallwood.

She is survived by her son, Charles W. “Charlie” Spencer and wife Jan, Johnson City, TN; four grandchildren, Kelley Spencer (Jimmy Inman), New Palestine, IN, Jana Spencer McDonald, Nashville, TN, Maria Spencer Kosh (Matthew Kosh), Johnson City, TN, Harrison Spencer, Johnson City, TN; four great-grandchildren, Max Spencer, Hayley and Hayden McDonald, Jack Inman.

A private graveside funeral service for Mary Lou will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, IN.
