Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Five Star Company plans to close sections of State Road 58 starting in mid-July, to complete a series of small structure replacements between State Road 135 and State Road 446 in Jackson and Lawrence counties.

The road was originally scheduled to close in early May, but the work has again been delayed due to utility conflicts. State Road 58 will close for up to 30 days at each of the following locations:

  • Starting mid-July: State Road 58, 13.37 miles east of State Road 446 at unnamed tributary to South Fork Salt Creek, between County Road 550W and County Road 650W in Jackson County
  • Starting mid-August: State Road 58, 9.9 miles east of State Road 446, between Pike Road and County Road 980W in Jackson County
  • Starting mid-September: State Road 58, 1.39 miles east of State Road 446 at unnamed tributary to Leatherwood Creek, between Fairview Mundell Road and State Road 446 in Lawrence County

The $1 million contract was awarded to Five Star in February, with a completion date in late October. Traffic will be routed along the official detour, which follows State Road 446, U.S. 50 and State Road 135. Access will be maintained for local residents, while thru traffic should use an alternate route.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
