Julia Ann Amburgey 86, of Seymour, Indiana passed away unexpectedly at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana after a short hospital stay. She was born in Amburgey, Kentucky in 1935 to the late Kenzie Lee Cook and Ritter Tolliver Cook.

A very intelligent lady, she took her jobs seriously. As a single mother she worked at the main Columbus, Ohio downtown post office from the mid 1960’s until 1971 when she decided to become a business owner, moved back home to Kentucky and opened Willy’s Pizza. She later become a foreman at a coal tipple in 1978 until the mid-80’s. She moved to Indiana in 1989 and retired as a well-loved police dispatcher for Seymour City Police.

She was very kind and giving often blessing someone with a yummy homemade treat or a handmade gift. She had many hobbies, and she was an exceptional cook, painter, quilter and expert at sewing and crocheting. Her fried apple pies were legendary and many of her creations were blue ribbon winners

She is survived by her daughter Ruthann Combs (James) of Seymour, grandsons Travis Ray Grigsby and Richard “Richie” Johnson (Rachel). Also surviving step grandchildren are Ashlyn Combs and Jayden Combs. Great grandchildren Hayden Cole Grigsby, Bailey Reynolds, Maya Johnson, Luke Johnson, Eli Johnson, Ilana Johnson, Hana Johnson, and Kayslee Barnes. She was looking forward to meeting her great great grandson Cole Grigsby soon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Guy Comer Cook and her sister Ruth Cook Luttrell, son William “Willy” Amburgey and daughter Rita Pearl Moore.

Visitation will be held on Monday May 23, 2022, from 5pm until the time of service at 7 pm at Voss and Sons Funeral Service.

Family request memorials be given to Humane Society of Jackson County in care Voss and Sons Funeral Service.
