Seymour starts strong to beat Jeff

The Seymour softball team got off to a good start against Jeffersonville on Saturday afternoon to win the game 3-2.

The Owls scored two runs in the top of the first and added the final run in the top of the third.

Kendall Allman, Kendrick Sterling and Kynadee Warner all hit doubles that put them in a position to score.

Sterling pitched the entire game and had 10 strikeouts with at least one strikeout in each inning.

Sydney Stewart contributed with two foul ball catches from behind the plate that helped the Owls keep their momentum.

Seymour is now 3-2 overall this season and 1-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference. Seymour will host Mitchell tonight at 5:30 p.m.

Baseball

Seymour splits pair of games

The Seymour baseball team won at North Harrison on Friday night 6-1.

Sophomore Gavin Leavy threw a no-hitter in his first varsity start, striking out 10 North Harrison batters in his seven innings pitched.

Charlie Longmeier had two hits on the day, Bret Perry had two, Skyler Cockerham had two and Aiden Darlage had one. Darlage had three RBI and Perry had 1 RBI to help propel the Owls to victory.

Seymour followed up that win with a tough 4-3 loss at New Albany on Saturday afternoon. The game needed extra innings before the Bulldogs walked it off in the bottom of the eighth.

The Owls are now 4-2 on the season and will next play at home against Brownstown Central on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Trinity drops game to Hauser

The Trinity Lutheran baseball team suffered a 17-3 loss to Hauser at home on Saturday afternoon.

Evan Hunt got the lone hit for the game, and he also had two RBI. Blaine Wehmiller, Levi Froedge and Kowan Gross each scored a run.

Peyton Pollert started on the mound for the Cougars and struck out four batters in three innings, and Chase Bode and Nathan Voelker also spent time on the mound.

Trinity will play at West Washington on Tuesday.

Brownstown drops two games

The Brownstown Central baseball team played two games on Saturday at Jennings County. The Braves lost to Washington 4-1 and lost to Jennings County 11-0.

This puts Brownstown’s record to 3-3 on the season, and the Braves will look to bounce back at North Harrison later today at 5:30 p.m.

Golf

Seymour competes in invite

The Seymour boys golf team competed in the Floyd Central Invitational on Saturday morning, and the Owls placed 13th with a team score of 372.

Oliver Kardos and Andon Self finished tied for 38th with a score of 90, Manny Fontanez finished tied for 56th with a 95, Ty Stuckwisch was tied for 63rd with a 97 and Noah Surface was tied for 69th with a 99.

Seymour will host Madison later today at 4:45 p.m. at Shadowood Golf Course.

Track and field

Crothersville competes in Stargazer Invitational

The Crothersville girls track and field team competed in the Stargazer Invitational at Corydon Central on Friday night, and the Tigers placed eighth overall out of 15 teams.

Kaylyn Holman was third in the 800 with a time of 2:42.43, and she was also third in the mile with a time of 6:00.00. Holman was second in the two mile with a time of 13:00.00.

Kennadi Lakins was 15th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.82, and Carlee Walker was 21st with a time of 15.72. Pearl Shirley was 19th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 32.38, and Walker was 24th in 33.52. Shirley was 11th in the 400 with a time of 1:15.07.

Kiarra Lakins was 16th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 21.98, and she was also 16th in the 300 hurdles in 1:14.65.

Kennadi Lakins was eighth in high jump at 4’6”, and she was third in long jump with 15’0.25”. Kaylee Caudill was 16th in discus with a throw of 59’1”, and she was also 16th in shot put with a 23’0”.

The Tigers will compete at South Decatur on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
