A Jackson County woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning near Hangman’s Crossing on Seymour’s far west side.

Alice Farris, 28, of Vallonia was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck reported at about 11:45 a.m. on Tipton Street at Sycamore Drive, Seymour Sgt. Michael Cooper said Sunday.

Farris’ 6-year-old son, Samuel Farris, and the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, 35-year-old Sehrish Sangamkar of Seymour, were flown by air ambulances to regional hospitals from the helipad at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Cooper said.

He said information about where the two were taken and the extent of their injuries and conditions was not available.

Alice Farris’ 10-month-old daughter, Marina Farris, also was treated at the scene by personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and taken to Schneck for evaluation and treatment, police said.

Cooper said Farris was driving a Buick passenger car east on Tipton Street and Sangamkar was driving a Jeep west when the wreck occurred.

He said Tipton Street was closed for several hours as crash investigators, including those with the Indiana State Police with drones, investigated the cause of the crash.

Personnel with the Seymour Police Department also assisted at the scene, and officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department helped out by responding to the calls in the city while Seymour police were busy with the investigation.
