Registration details for the 2022 Jackson County Young Artists’ Theatre summer youth theater workshop will be available Friday.

The registration link will be released through Jackson County Community Theatre’s email list and social media pages.

COVID-19 precautions will follow local, state and federal guidelines. Parents will receive an email with further details prior to the workshop.

The annual workshop for students ages 6 to 18 is June 6 to 10. It will go from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 6 to 9, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for ages 9 to 12 and from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for teens.

The skills they will learn include stage basics, movement, projection, diction, characterization, improvisation and technical aspects. Activities will take place at the theater, 121 W. Walnut St., Brownstown, and some offsite locations, including Starve Hollow State Recreation Area in Vallonia.

The sessions will be led by a team of experienced volunteers with backgrounds in acting and working with kids and teens.

In past years, JCCT has been able to provide the workshop free of charge thanks to the support of state and local groups.

Since the Art in the Park grant through the Indiana Arts Commission and Indiana Department of Natural Resources has been discontinued, however, the workshop is being offered at $20 per participant for the second year in a row. That covers T-shirts, snacks and supplies for the activities. Anyone unable to afford the program fee may complete a scholarship form.

On the last day of the workshop, kids will have the opportunity to audition for the summer production, “The Echanted Bookshop.” Participation in the play is not required for workshop participants. By the same token, those who are unable to attend the workshop may audition for the play.

The performance dates are July 15, 16, 17, 22 and 23.
