Housing help available for landlords, tenants

Nearly 10,000 evictions have been filed in Indiana so far this year, and a majority of Hoosiers at risk of eviction have not applied for emergency rental assistance.

As of Feb. 21, more than 19,000 households have received federal funds to help pay rent and utilities through the Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance program, and thousands more have received help through other regional programs. More than $400 million has been allocated to help Hoosiers, and millions of dollars of those funds have not yet been expended or obligated.

The Indiana Supreme Court is working to help tenants and landlords find resources for eviction support, including emergency rental assistance and landlord-tenant settlement conferences.

Hoosier Housing Help was created to open doors to housing stability by connecting tenants and landlords with vital resources for pre-eviction support. Tenants and landlords can visit hoosierhousinghelp.com to explore options for relief and recovery.

Hoosiers who have experienced financial hardship because of the pandemic (even if they have not been ill with COVID-19) may be eligible for federal funding for rent relief. Help is available whether or not an eviction case has already been filed to apply for rental assistance funding or participate in fast-track facilitation.
