The regular season has ended for Special Olympics Indiana Jackson County’s basketball teams.

Game results were submitted Monday, and the focus now turns to the sectional March 19 at the Hauser Fieldhouse at Hauser High School in Hope.

The Jackson County Tornadoes got in their final two games a day before regular season results were due.

Four of Monroe County’s teams traveled to play games at Seymour Middle School on Sunday afternoon.

In one gymnasium, the Tornadoes took on the Monroe County Raptors, and in the other gym, Monroe County’s other two teams played each other.

Against the Raptors, the Tornadoes started off strong with a 9-5 lead after the first 6 minutes. The Raptors, however, evened the score at halftime.

In the end, though, Jackson County held on for a 19-14 win to improve to 4-0 on the season. A.J. Engel led with nine points, while Thomas Emly was next with eight, and Dakota Campbell added the other two points.

The Tornadoes’ second game was against the Monroe County Cutters. The Cutters are a Level 3 team, which is a step above the Tornadoes being in Level 4.

The Cutters only led 13-8 after one quarter, but they built a 27-11 lead at halftime and finished strong for a 50-18 victory.

In this game, Emly and Josh Beals both scored seven points to lead the Tornadoes, and Engel and Campbell each scored two points.

The Tornadoes will take a 4-1 record into the sectional.

Information about the sectional should be released by Special Olympics Indiana soon. If sectionals are played around the state, the winners in each division will advance to the state tournament April 2 and 3 at the Pacers Athletic Center in Westfield.

Jackson County also has three three-on-three teams — Cyclones, Tsunamis and Hurricanes — that will compete in the sectional.

The Hurricanes went 2-2 in the regular season, while the Tsunamis were 2-4, and the Cyclones were 0-6.
