Four local men arrested in Scott County drug bust

Four Jackson County residents were among five arrested in a drug bust in Scott County.

David Parks, 35, of Seymour, Gregory Poggel, 29, and Shawn D. Hensley, 31, both of Crothersville, and Alexander J. Riley, 23, of Medora all face drug charges along with Leroy D. Whitaker, 55, of Scottsburg.

Labeled Operation Friendly Reminder by Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin, the latest drug dealer identification and subsequent eradication action resulted in the arrests of the men.

Detective Cpl. Paul Clute and Officer Ryan Ware with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office led this operation, resulting in multiple drug buys during the operational phase while partnering with the community, who consistently reported tips to the sheriff’s office.

“We can’t do what we do without the support and assistance from our citizens,” Goodin said. “I am eternally grateful to serve as the sheriff of Scott County, where all citizens are committed to making our home the safest county in America to live and raise a family.”

Parks was arrested for dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug, a Level 5 felony, and a warrant for escape.

Poggel was arrested for dealing in methamphetamine at least 1 gram and less than 5 grams and two counts of dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug at least 1 gram and less than 5 grams, all Level 4 felonies.

Whitaker was arrested for two counts of dealing in meth between 1 and 5 grams, a Level 4 felony, and dealing in meth between 0 and 1 gram, a Level 5 felony.

Riley was arrested for dealing in meth between 1 and 5 grams, a Level 4 felony, and manufacturing meth, a Level 4 felony.

Hensley was arrested for four counts of dealing in meth between 1 and 5 grams with enhancing circumstances, a Level 3 felony, and dealing in meth between 1 and 5 grams with enhancing circumstances, a Level 4 felony.

Parks and Poggel are at the Scott County Security Center in Scottsburg, while Whitaker and Riley both are incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown awaiting extradition to Scott County, and Hensley is at the Bartholomew County Jail in Columbus also awaiting extradition to Scott County.
