Local players receive all-district, all-state honors

It was a successful year for Seymour, Trinity Lutheran and Brownstown Central volleyball this fall.

Each team had some major accomplishments, and as a result, some of the players on each team have reaped the rewards.

Starting with the state runner-up Trinity Lutheran team, the Cougars saw four individuals earn all-state honors.

On the Class A All-State first team were Ruthie Bingham, Bailey Tabeling and Kamzi Gross. Stella Kleffman made the all-state second team.

Earning Class A All-District honors were Bingham, Tabeling, Gross and Addison Darlage, and head coach Faith Wilder-Newland won District Coach of the Year.

Tabeling and Bingham were the two leaders in kills with 409 and 365, respectively. Kleffman contributed 149 kills, and she also led the team in aces with 56.

Gross had the most digs with 581, followed by Kleffman at 425 and Bingham at 407.

As for Darlage, she had a tremendous freshman season for the Cougars, finishing with 1,147 assists as the team’s setter.

For the Seymour Owls, Olivia Fish earned a spot on the Class 4A All-State second team. Fish also was an All-District player.

Fish finished this season with 492 kills, putting her over 1,000 for her career, and she also led the team in digs with 289. She helped lead the Owls into the sectional with a 26-5 record.

As for the Brownstown Braves, Reagan Nuss got a spot on the Class 3A All-State first team. Like Fish, Nuss also was an All-District player.

Nuss had 108 kills this season to go along with 255 digs and 784 assists as the Braves’ setter.

Nuss and the Braves won the Owen Valley Sectional this season for the third straight year. As a senior, this was Nuss’ fourth straight time making an all-state team for 3A.

She will continue her volleyball career in college at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
