WEST UNION, ILL.

Justin “JB” Black, 84, of West Union, IL, died November 4, 2021, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born February 19, 1937, in Brownstown, IN, the son of Edgar O. &Lillian (Fleetwood) Black, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marsha Diann Black and Myra Fuquay; and one brother, William Lynn Black.

He married Norma Hoopingarner on January 2, 1993, and she survives. He is also survived by his children &their spouses, Matthew &Lisha Black, Traci &John England, Jessica &Dana Johnson, Melissa McCalister, Lisa &Kevin Purcell and Misty &Chase Mynatt; by 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; by his sister &brother-in-law, Judy &Kenneth Fisher; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Justin grew up in the Brownstown area and was a 1955 graduate of Clearspring High School in Jackson County. He would go on to work for TRW for 30 years and Hershey for nearly as long, retiring at the age of 83(!) after 26 years of service. Away from work, Justin spent countless hours tending to his garden, and it always brought him so much joy to give its vegetables and peanuts to his family and friends. He also was quite the Coca-Cola collector, which was, by the way, his favorite drink.

He cherished being with people, especially at gatherings, where he would reminisce and tell stories alongside his loved ones. They will forever remember how devoted he was to his family and the care and love he poured out daily. In fact, it was evident in the way he lived his life that Justin gave out of a deep well of grace and love. One could attribute this to his walk with Jesus. Though he never missed a Sunday worshipping at the First Christian Church in West Union, (where he was a member for over 30 years), it was the way he lived his life that bore witness to his faith, which, by the grace of God, has been made sight.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9th, at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Joe Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the York Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the “West Union First Christian Church”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
