“The Way of the Hive: A Honey Bee’s Story” by Jay Hosler.

What made you want to pick up this book in the first place?

I liked the graphics on the front cover.

Once you got into the book, what made you want to keep reading it?

It was very informative about the life cycle and duties of a honey bee and had great humor. I also really liked the artwork.

Once you finished the book, what did you like about it?

I like that it is accurate on the life of a honey bee but teaches in such a way that the information is fun and not dry. The book gets bonus points for being a graphic novel.

What is the book about?

The book follows a honey bee named Nyuki through her life cycle and all of the changes she faces. Hard feelings, such as fear of the unknown and grief, also are addressed as Nyuki navigates both. We see Nyuki make less-than-desirable decisions, but we also see her learn from her mistakes and those around her.

Why would you recommend this book to others?

If you are looking for a fun way to teach a child about the life cycle and inner workings of a beehive, this is the perfect read. The graphics are great, it is packed full of knowledge and the humor is top-notch.
